Remarks	The genus Patrobus was redescribed; Patrobus (Patrobus) shirahatai sp. nov. was described from Niigata, Honshu, Japan; a key to the two subgenera and five species from Japan was provided, in which Apatrobus subgen. nov. (type species: Penetretus hikosanus) was established; a catalogue of the five Japanese species was given.
