| Remarks | Thrybius acuticornus n. sp. is described from Japan and Hong Kong. Thrybius togashii, which prior to this study was the only species of Thrybius Townes 1965 in East Asia, is redescribed and newly recorded from China and Korea. These species have remarkable differences in apical flagellar segment and fore tibia in females. Modifications or developments of these organs are considered to be related to host location by vibrational sounding (echo-location via solid medium) in several lineages of parasitoid wasps. The differences in these organs between Thrybius species also can influence their host usage. The functional significance of these structures is discussed briefly in relation to vibrational sounding, and compared with two European species, T. brevispina (Thomson 1896) and T. praedator (Rossi 1792). |
