Remarks	A diagnosis of subgenus Rhagadus was provided; four new Japanese species, Pterostichus (Rhagadus) straneoi sp. nov., Pterostichus (Rhagadus) satsumanus sp. nov., Pterostichus (Rhagadus) takaosanus sp. nov. and Pterostichus (Rhagadus) brittoni sp. nov., were described from Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Tokyo and Gumma, respectively; Pterostichus (Rhagadus) microcephalus, Pterostichus (Rhagadus) thorectes, and Pterostichus (Rhagadus) polygenus were redescribed; a key to the seven Japanese species was given.
