Remarks The genetic divergence and population structure of the flightless supralittoral weevil, Aphela gotoi (CHÛJÔ et VOSS, 1960) was investigated. A 598-bp fragment of the mitochondrial COI gene was sequenced from 32 specimens representing seven distinct populations in coastal areas of Honshu and Shikoku, Japan. The molecular analyses revealed the existence of two major geographical lineages within A. gotoi, suggesting that gene flow in this species has been inhibited by the Japanese archipelago between the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean.
