A taxonomic study of the sylphis-group of Platynus, with descriptions of Platynus elainus hiroshimae subsp. nov. from Hiroshima, Honshu, Platynus sylphis honshuensis subsp. nov., Platynus sylphis sadoensis subsp. nov. from Niigata, Honshu, Platynus sylphides sp. nov. from Amami-Oshima Is., the Ryukyus, and Platynus yamatonis sp. nov. from Nara, Honshu, Japan; Platynus elainus elainus, Platynus sylphis stichai, and Platynus sylphis sylphis were redescribed; records of Platynus integratus, Platynus tsushimanus, Platynus maruokai, and Platynus speculator were given; a key to the Japanese species and subspecies was provided.
